Americans With Disabilities Act

The Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”) is a civil rights enacted law which states that no individual shall be discriminated against on the basis of disability in the full and equal enjoyment of goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages or accommodations of any place of public accommodation by any private entity who owns, leases (or leases to), or operates a place of public accommodation.  Title III of the Law mandates that public accommodations shall remove architectural barriers in existing facilities which are structural in nature, where such removal is readily achievable and easily accomplished without unreasonable difficulty or expense.  Because this is a civil rights law and not a building code, it will be enforced by court action, not by the Building Department.

150 East 42nd Street has developed a plan identifying barriers to disabled access, and the proposed method of barrier removal and an implementation plan.  All Building staff have been trained and an assistance sensitivity program has been instituted.  Please notify the Property Management Office if a disabled person is employed by your company.
